Lightning-fast login and the tightest security – Single Sign-On for SAP® applications
SAP is known for providing a wide range of applications and systems that boost efficiency and simplify work. As a long-time SAP partner, PROMOS has had many of these applications integrated into its day-to-day business for years. Accordingly, PROMOS employees spend lots of time each day logging into all the individual platforms manually. After all, data protection and secure digital identities are a top priority, which makes it essential to log out of all platforms each day.
Figure 1: Developers, IT professionals and consultants have long had to individually log into multiple platforms via SAP GUI manually.
Single Sign-On for SAP® applications makes the cumbersome login process a thing of the past. For PROMOS employees that means they spend less time signing into the systems. They also benefit from a convenient, secure login procedure. The time saved by doing away with simple, monotonous work processes means more time for customer meetings, service optimisation and quality management. But how exactly does it work? Single Sign-On is based on the conventional login via user name and password. It’s technically possible to reuse this digital identity. To be specific, this means that IT employees can establish trust relationships between the servers and services. These trust relationships can issue domains the command to “trust” other reliable domains. Whether SAP® or Microsoft® applications – this process can be used to link all platforms running within the browser. Even the widespread client software SAP GUI can be configured to support the Single Sign-On login procedure.
Figure 2: With Single Sign-On for SAP GUI, you simply select the client to log in.
And what exactly does this mean for users? Instead of entering the user name and password for each system, employees only have to select the client in SAP GUI and are instantly logged in. What makes the whole process so secure? Only the employees can log in to the respective hardware, which is protected by multiple passwords. What’s more, PROMOS enhances the internal security and data protection in customer systems with an additional factor: multi-factor authentication (MFA), which is currently in the test phase at PROMOS and will soon be introduced for the whole company. Many people already know the procedure from their bank. For obvious reasons, banks rely on stringent safety precautions and therefore often use the highly secure MFA method requiring entry of a TAN. Multi-factor authentication contributes to increased security and protection against fraud.
In future, PROMOS employees will be able to log into all internal systems via this method. And also – only if desired by the relevant company, of course – into customer systems. Customers will therefore also benefit from increased security and even better availability of our consulting and support employees. If you’d like to know more, then get in touch with us!
